Climate Action

Welcome to the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association Climate Action Hub. The Hub aims to educate and encourage people like you to take climate action into your own hands.

Climate change is a threat to the lands and waters that we live, work and depend on. Engaging in direct climate action by lowering your personal greenhouse gas emissions not only mitigates your contribution to climate change, but further normalizes climate-conscious lifestyles, producing a ripple effect that has far-reaching impacts.

And if saving the planet isn't enough, it's important to know that lowering your emissions often leads to the added benefit of lower monthly energy bills and fuel costs!

What can Grassroots Action do for a Global Challenge like Climate Change?

By addressing the Climate Crisis head on, we can show governments and corporations that citizens are serious about solving the climate crisis. Large-scale changes will be necessary to drastically reduce our carbon emissions, but action on a local scale can have far reaching positive impacts.

By committing to climate action, the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula has an opportunity to emerge as a leader on the climate front. By engaging in widespread, grassroots climate action, we can prepare our community for the inevitable economic, social, and environmental challenges brought about by the climate crisis, while raising our profile as a truly unique community that successfully balances economic stability and prosperity with environmental responsibility.

Climate Action Plan

Climate change is a global emergency that affects us all. None of us are immune to its effects, and we all have a responsibility to contribute to its solutions. Even a community like the Northern Bruce Peninsula – small, rural, and removed from the areas we often associate with the most significant impacts of climate change – will be profoundly impacted in the coming decades. It is time to do our part and prepare.

This Climate Action Plan is our community’s response to the many challenges posed by climate change. It is the culmination of many months of work which began with the appointment of the Municipal Climate Action Committee in 2020. Through the generous support of the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association, funding from Environment and Climate Change Canada, as well as several other community organizations, the project team engaged all corners of our community – nearly one thousand voices in all – to develop an ambitious but practical plan that Northern Bruce Peninsula can be proud of.

On May 9th, 2025, the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula formally accepted the Climate Action Plan and adopted the associated greenhouse gas emission targets.
